“June 4 not my date.”

On June 4, Davis was reported to fight no one else, but arch-nemesis, Rolando Romero. The two were on the line to square off last year only, but Romero ended up in a controversy, due to which he had to withdraw from the fight.

In his place, ‘Tank’ confronted Isaac Cruz to defend his WBA ‘regular’ lightweight strap. This was a good fight between the two men, wherein Cruz didn’t give an easy win to the undefeated champ. However, being a prolific knockout star, many expected Davis to finish this fight via T/KO.

But the fight went the distance and due to his punching accuracy, Davis ended up on the winning side via a UD.

After this win, the WBA ordered Davis to defend his title against Rolando Romero, as the latter is a mandatory challenger.
