It’s back to business for Gervonta Davis. The WBO’s lightweight champion will face the challenger, Hector Luis Garcia, tomorrow at Washington D.C.’s Capital One Arena. The Baltimorean is gloving himself up after a break of six months. So far, he has maintained a spotless record, winning all 27 career bouts.
Last week’s arrest at Parkland, Florida, doused the excitement building around the fight. At one point, as multiple reports gave away, it seemed that neither of Gervonta’s two big fights might see the light of day. Out on a $1000 bail, ‘The Tank’ faced off with Hector Luis during the weigh-in. As the video of the event started capturing social media space, a few couldn’t help but dive into apparent drollery.

Gervonta Davis and Hector Luis Garcia weigh-in
Gervonta Davis and Hector Luis Garcia met at the Capital One Arena for their weigh-in. Interestingly, both the lightweight specialists stood at 134 lbs., one pound short of the division’s mandated limit. Nevertheless, the ‘Tank’ won the tile on 26th June 2021 and has held it ever since. The fight against the Puerto Rican will be his third title defense.
Until recently, an unknown entity, Hector Luis Garcia, turned 2022 into a memorable one. With two consecutive victories over Chris Colbert and Roger Gutierrez, he announced his entry into the big league. Especially the win over WBA super featherweight champion Gutierrez opened doorways for the 130-pounder to scale up and challenge Davis.

The duo, per standard routine, faced each other at the venue. However, as Davis tried to grab Hector’s hoodie, the latter pushed him back. Later, the two boxers switched to the boxing stance facing each other. Afterwards, they turned over to pose for the media representatives present there.

It was ‘KingRy’ who revealed the details of the heated exchange through Instagram. Per his version, along with a friend, he approached ‘The Tank’ to check if they would ever get into a bout. Reportedly riled up at this obtrusion, Davis grabbed KingRy’s chain, as reported by Marca. However, the security guards intervened and brought the situation under control.
