Over the weekend, Swedish fighter, Otto Wallin will undertake one of the biggest fights of his career. However, while most see him as the underdog against Anthony Joshua, the fighter who’s only seen one defeat in his record remains confident of his victory. The reasons? He suggested it has something to do with his opponent’s trainer.
On the 23rd of December, a historic card, billed, ‘Day of Reckoning’ will take its course at the Kingdom Arena of Riyadh. His fight against AJ will feature as the main event bout. Although Joshua has changed his trainer for this fight on a temporary basis, Wallin thinks his decisions will backfire on him on fight night.

Otto Wallin has something to say about Anthony Joshua switching trainers
Wallin fired shots at AJ’s trainer, implying that hiring Ben Davison for the fight might prove to be a wrong decision for the former British Heavyweight champion. The fighter told Boxing Social, “He was in Tyson Fury’s corner of course for our fight. I think it’s good to remember that after the fight Ben Davison was fired by Fury. So that’s all I take from it. Fury had a draw with Deontay Wilder, he got a new trainer and he came back to knock Wilder out. So obviously Fury got better when he switched trainers.”
In 2019, after having registered a draw against Deontay Wilder, Tyson Fury defended his WBC title against Wallin. While he was successful at it, he came out of that fight with a horrific cut, and the outcome of the hard-fought battle was left to the judges’ scorecard. Following the fight, Fury revamped his camp by letting go of Davison as his trainer and signing up Sugar Hill Steward.
This year, in his second change of trainers, AJ roped in Davison in his training camp. But why? Didn’t Fury’s decision teach him much?

Anthony Joshua Brings Davison as his trainer
After his Oleksandr Usyk defeat last year, AJ came to the US to train with Derrick James. Their partnership yielded AJ his victories this year against Jermaine Franklin Jr. and Robert Helenius. However, later, the British fighter roped in Davison to train him. The reason? Well, Davison was the one who trained Tyson Fury for his Wallin fight in 2019, a fight that gave the Swedish fighter his career’s first loss.
However, while talking to Laura Woods from TNT Sports Boxing, AJ revealed that he wasn’t aware that Davison was training Fury when he won against Otto Wallin. He noted, “You brought it to my attention that he worked with Fury when he fought Otto. Crazy how it works. This fight came about two/three days ago. And we were working two/three months ago, So, we were working together anyway.” Explaining the real reason for the switch in trainers, he said, “I’m based in America [the] majority of the time for training camp. And then when I’m back here [UK], rather than hitting a heavy bag by myself and making a hell of a mistake, I think it’s good to work with a coach to still sharpen my thoughts.”
