Floyd Mayweather is one of the all-time greats in the sport of boxing who has remained undefeated throughout his career. Having held world titles in five -divisions, Mayweather has faced quality competition all his life. However, critics still ridicule his performances.
His win against Canelo Alvarez doesn’t go well with several people, claiming that Mayweather hadn’t faced the prime version of Alvarez. ‘TBE’ hasn’t really bothered about it. He has always considered himself as the greatest and with the successful stint of 50-0, none can challenge his resume.
Well, boxing is a violent sport and a massive portion of the audience prefers to see the boxers land knockouts. In that case, Mayweather has been a defensive elite all his life and has never been a recognized power puncher. That said, Mayweather has earned most of his wins via stoppage. Is Floyd Mayweather a powerful KO artist?
Mayweather has never been a one-punch hitter. He used his defensive idea and game plan to put his power through sheer tactics. Apart from this, Mayweather has not allowed his opponents to take him down with a flurry of jabs. The ‘TBE’ was never a fan of slugfests. Instead, he used his footwork and fight IQ to deactivate his opponents with jabs. On finding the right time, he put his haymakers into the display. That said, the referees had intervened in most of the cases, turning the stoppages into Technical Knockout.
Mayweather’s last win came against UFC’s two-division champion Conor McGregor in 2017 via TKO. Before that, Floyd Mayweather had stopped several A-listed opponents like Victor Ortiz, Arturo Gatti, Ricky Hatton, Henry Brussels, and several others. Mayweather clearly possessed immense power, but his technical IQ somehow overpowered his hard-hitting features. He never rushed to put his opponents on the canvas, and that’s what fetched him impressive results.

But the fight ended shockingly. Ortiz looked good in-ring and offered sheer aggression against Mayweather. He planted some sleek shots and ‘TBE’ appeared in danger. In round four, Ortiz cornered Mayweather with brutal shots but plated an illegal headbutt.
It urged the referee to step in, but Ortiz was aware of the mishap and apologized. As the fight resumed, Ortiz hugged Mayweather with his guards down. ‘TBE’ used it in his favor and landed the right hook to score the controversial KO.
