Devin Haney was victorious against Vasyl Lomachenko but found himself at the center of a controversy. After a competitive bout, Haney was declared the winner via unanimous decision. The decision raised eyebrows and sparked debates in the boxing world. Many boxing fans and purists were of the opinion that Lomachenko got the better of Haney and felt that the former champion was robbed of a victory.

Meanwhile, Haney was pleased with the decision and is looking forward to planning his next move. The 24-year-old remains undefeated and is still the reigning champion of the lightweight division. Before the fight, the fans were stunned to see the size of Haney and speculated that the champion would be forced to move up to the super-lightweight division. Although, the boxing world would be inclined to watch Haney square off against Lomachenko in a rematch again; the champion may have some other plans. During the post-fight interview, Haney reflected on fighting at 135lbs for 8 years and hinted at making a decision on what lies ahead for him in the division.

Not to mention, Haney was humble in victory and was a true professional. Despite the crowd booing him, the boxer gave due props to Lomachenko for being his toughest opponent to date. Reflecting on the same, he stated, Oh I mean he is a crafty fighter. He turns it up in the championship rounds. And I just take my hat off, he is a great fighter.”

Thereafter, he stated, “We’ll watch the fight and reflect on it. I have been at 135 for a long time. I have been a 135 since I was 16 years old. So we gonna go back to the lab and figure out what is next.” Needless to say, Haney is one of the best fighters, pound-for-pound in the sport currently. However, it would be interesting to see how he flairs against the top fighters in the super-lightweight division if he moves up.

What excites Haney about the super-lightweight division?

It is not clear as to which division will Haney fight next. He still is the undisputed lightweight champion and there are many potential bouts for him in the division. In the post-fight interview, Haney mentioned a few names that may excite him to compete in the division. He stated, “We got fighters like Shakur, we got fighters like Gervonta and the list goes on and on.”
