Anthony Joshua went head-to-head with former undisputed cruiserweight champion, Oleksandr Usyk, back in September. After 12 rounds of complete domination and intelligent striking and movement, the Ukrainian managed to snatch Joshua’s heavyweight throne away from him. Now, boxing legend Floyd Mayweather believes he might know a thing or two about why AJ actually lost that night.

In a recent interview after the Gervonta Davis vs Isaac Cruz press conference, Floyd ‘Money’ Mayweather shared his thoughts on Anthony Joshua’s second professional career loss. Not only did he offer to train him, but boxing’s ‘Pretty Boy’ also claimed that he had advised some changes to AJ long back and suggested that could have been the reason for his loss in September.

I told him from the beginning. I was one of the first guys to come on record, from the beginning, I told him, he can come and I can teach him some pointers because a lot of the times, and this is just my take, the same coach you had as an amateur doesn’t always make him a great professional coach.

“Some guys are great at amateur coaching and some guys are great at professional coaching.

Even like my dad, I feel like my dad was the best as a professional because he was teaching me, as an amateur, like a professional. You know, I’m going to always speak the real, whether somebody like it or not.

I just feel like Anthony Joshua, they keep going to different coaches, this coach’s gonna work with him, oh this coach’s gonna work with him. I told him in the beginning when he was undefeated, you got some things you still gotta tweak because if you don’t, you may come up short,” said Floyd Mayweather.

Floyd Mayweather has been chasing Anthony Joshua since 2016

It was a holiday but we were also out there looking for training bases. While we were out there we got a message from Mayweather asking what hotel we were staying at. We told him and all of a sudden, maybe an hour after, he was in the underground car park with all his mates and loads of Rolls Royces.

“The hotel desk called our room and said Floyd is waiting for you in the car park. It was crazy. From that point on he basically hosted us for the rest of our time there, said Ghansa.
