Mike Tyson Explains the Emotional and Psychological Component of Discipline
Patrick Bet-David quizzed the legendary boxer on the reason why certain fighters fell through even though they were very gifted. Iron Mike had something very interesting to say. He reasoned that many fighters lacked the discipline. As a result, their emotional and psychological base gave away when it came to facing him. He noted, “The reason they didn’t have the discipline because they allow their mind to take over and say you can never beat him.”
Clarifying his thought process on the matter, Tyson explained that one’s discipline has implicit emotional and psychological factors attached to it. If one does not believe in themselves and own the idea of being the best in the game, then there would be a significant lack of consistent efforts at excelling.
“You know it’s not the physical aspects, it’s emotional and psychological. I put the impression that I’m God on them,” Tyson explained. When a chuckle arose in the audience, Tyson explained his reasoning. “If you don’t believe you’re God, why are you even here? True right? If you don’t wanna be the best ever, why are you here?” stated the youngest heavyweight champion in history.
It’s been years since he’s bid farewell to the ring, yet he continues to hold on to that discipline. His muscular physique stands testimony to that.
