“From the outset, it looks great. It’s a great deal for boxing because it’s another broadcaster coming in, a powerful broadcaster, and it shows other broadcasters and it shows the sport that boxing works and there’s interest. So, new investment, new broadcaster,” said the Chairperson of Matchroom Sport.
In addition, looking at the bright side of things, Hearn, who signed a five-year deal with DAZN in 2021, declared the deal between Al Haymon’s PBC and Amazon Prime would only make DAZN more competitive in the sport. “I want boxing to work. I want new broadcasters [to] come in because DAZN, we’re on fire right now. The numbers are great. They’ve got a proper business for boxing. But, I want competition for DAZN and me. Because it makes DAZN more competitive,” he added.
While Hearn lauds PBC’s partnering with Amazon Prime, it is worth exploring what the deal has in store for the sport.
