Boxing fans cut no slack in critiquing fighters, decisions, and also matchups. As the saying goes, “It takes two to tango,” similarly, fans are not just interested to see boxers box but also in who they fight. Jake Paul, in the capacity of a professional boxer, has received flak for not fighting professional boxers. Out of his 7 boxing bouts, the YouTuber cum boxer has only fought a professional boxer once. Back in February, Paul fought Tommy Fury— a boxer who hails from a boxing family. In his contest, Fury swept up a split-decision victory and it was the only time Paul fell short. Safe to say that, Paul has left the fans unanswered on one pivotal question that is in their mind: Can he actually defeat a professional boxer?
Yet, Paul is back in his old ways as he gears up to face Nate Diaz on August 5. Diaz is a veteran MMA combatant but has never competed in a squared circle professionally. The earlier criticism of Paul not fighting professional boxers ignited again. However, one cannot count Diaz out. He is way more experienced in the world of combat sports. To make the bout competitive and get the fans excited, Paul stated that he would face Diaz in a 10-round contest instead of eight, citing Nate’s endurance, to give the Stockton native a better edge. However, the fans remain unimpressed.

Jake Paul was unsuccessful in exciting boxing fans
Paul’s popularity can be attributed to the fact that he is a polarizing figure. Despite Paul trying his best to make the bout competitive, he continues to receive criticism for not giving what the fans demand. On Twitter, he stated, “Nate Diaz wants 10 rounds. I guess he has good cardio. Ok Nathan, 10 rounds it is.”

A fan VikingIrishGod does not consider the bout to be truly a “real” one: “It’s not real boxing, It’s entertainment. Do we really want to see an old MMA guy fight a YouTuber and have him claim he’s a professional boxer?? Nooo”

On the contrary, one fan Adam thinks no matter how much some fans favour Diaz in the match-up, Paul would come out as the victor. He states, “Whatever it takes to toy with him. Let’s go champ”

One fan with username Waffler considers this move a big mistake. He stated, “Ngl you are making a huge mistake by this, Nate never stops coming forward. He will out land you for the majority of the fight. The only way you win is if you land more significant strikes than him or tko/ko which is hard to believe considering his iron chin. Idk gl I guess.”
