‘The Lion’ believes WBC champion Tyson Fury is currently the best in the unit and has billed him as “number one”. However, he expresses some reluctance before writing Anthony Joshua completely off.
Just like most fans, Lewis also wants the title unification fight to materialize. However, he appears to know exactly why Tyson Fury has an advantage over Anthony Joshua.
Touting it as a ‘great fight’, Lennox Lewis said, “They (fans) want to see an undisputed champion. They want Tyson Fury and Anthony (Joshua) to fight. I think it’s going to be a great fight.”
He added, “Both are great athletes and everybody is looking for a major fight like that and there’s a lot of people who think Anthony Joshua is gonna be the champion. Lot of people think that Tyson Fury is gonna be the champion.
Amid all these statements, Lewis still placed his bets in favor of the Gypsy King. He actually pointed out some valid factors to back up his belief.
Tyson Fury – A southpaw and an orthodox?
Fury has touched all the heavyweight belts of boxing and currently boasts the WBC title alongside an unbeaten record of 30-0. Therefore, it is no surprise that Lewis has hailed him for that.

Speaking about it, he said, “Right now, Tyson Fury is number one to me. I think Tyson Fury is a great heavyweight. The fact that he is a switch hitter, you don’t really see that in heavyweight boxing and you know that he can box southpaw and he can box orthodox.”
Meanwhile, the fight can happen in 2021 if Joshua successfully defends his unified titles against Kubrat Pulev on December 12th. It doesn’t seem like Fury will fight anytime soon after being snubbed off the trilogy fight against Wilder. Thus, we can wait for Joshua to mark the last line before the Britons collide inside the ring.
