The upcoming WBC interim lightweight title fight between Ryan Garcia and Luke Campbell is in jeopardy after the latter tested positive for COVID-19. Garcia, who was set to take on Campbell on December 5, is out of an opponent now.
The lightweight thriller still could have been staged by replacing Campbell with some other contender. However, Matchroom CEO Eddie Hearn isn’t doing that. Instead, he is planning to reschedule the fight and expects a short delay for it.
That said, this is Matchroom’s second main-event that has been postponed due to COVID-19. First, the rematch between Alexander Povetkin and Dillian Whyte got called off after the former tested positive for the virus.

While the boxing community has already witnessed some stellar lightweight clashes this year, it will miss out on Garcia vs Campbell in 2020. However, the fight is still relevant on the charts and will predictably take place by early 2021.
Luke Campbell is COVID positive and out of the battle against Ryan Garcia
Hearn took to Twitter and broke the news for the fans. He is still optimistic about the matchup happening. Turning to social media, the Matchroom CEO wrote, “Unfortunately, Luke Campbell tested positive for COVID-19. He has completed isolation and resumes training shortly but will not be fit for Dec 5. We are working on a new date with Golden Boy and DAZN Boxing and only anticipate a very short delay to this great fight”

‘KingRy’ Ryan Garcia is also upset for having a hurdle on his re-appearance inside the ring. The WBC silver lightweight champion has appeared excited about facing Cambell throughout the buildup. Thus, he seems to be heartbroken about the newly discovered fact. He took to Twitter and wrote, “2020 really not giving up till the end”.
Boxing fans will have to wait for some more time until they see the lightweight gladiators face-off inside the ring. Till then, there are several matchups on the charts and fans will seemingly enjoy them throughout the remaining year of 2020.
