Manny Pacquiao on Rematching Floyd Mayweather: “He’s Retired”

In 2015, Manny Pacquiao and Floyd Mayweather fought each other in the biggest fight in boxing history. Back then, as both the technicians were in their prime, it was vital for the two to settle the debate on the best boxer of the young generation. That said, ‘Pretty Boy’ came out on top on fight night, attaining a magnetic win to prove his mettle. Post that, he took a couple of fights and signed off from the sport.
On the other hand, ‘Pacman’ kept competing and till today he’s an active face of the sport. On August 21, he will lock horns with Errol Spence Jr. in what will be one of his most important career fights.
Ahead of that, The Filipino Senator interacted with FightHype and assessed the possibilities of a rematch with ‘TBE’. First, the reporter asked him whether Mayweather will appear at his upcoming fight against Spence Jr. Pacquiao responded, “I don’t know, he’s invited.”

Later, talking about his chances of a rematch with his American foe, ‘Pacman’ said, “I am still active in boxing. He’s retired already, so I don’t know.”
The 42-year-old didn’t seem apprehensive about booking a rematch with Mayweather and said he would be ready. As the Mayweather vs Pacquiao fight in 2015 had the attention of the entire sports world, it grossed $600 million, making it the richest fight in history. A second bout could eclipse those numbers.

‘Money’ left the sport for good in 2017, and he has no concrete plans of coming back to the professional mix. With that, a rematch between him and Pacquiao doesn’t really seem on the cards.
However, once The Filipino boxing legend hangs up his gloves from the game, the duo might engage in an exhibition tussle, which has turned into a new trend in the sport.
