Froom 2004-2006, the American pugilist had fought 12 times, winning 9 of them and losing three. Mikey Garcia had begun his amateur career with a loss against Darnel Jiles Jr. in 2004 via PTS.

He then scored four wins before losing to Diego Magdaleno via SD next year. Subsequently, Garcia bagged 5 more wins before his final amateur loss to Terence Crawford in 2006.
