From December last year, the way each event unfolded has been unheralded. Gervonta Davis’ arrest on domestic violence charges made headlines across the world. The sensational news put a dampener on the two fights he needed to participate in. Most thought the first fight against Puerto Rican Hector Luis Garcia would collapse.
However, ‘The Tank’s’ subsequent release raised hopes that fans would get to see what they wanted. Come January 7, at Washington D.C’s Capital One Arena, Davis once again justified his standing among the top-tier boxers in the world. As the road to April rendezvous with archrival Ryan Garcia, many fans are desperate to see two of the generations’ greatest exchanging jabs in the ring.

Oscar De La Hoya – the fight everyone wanted is going to happen!
Ryan Garcia’s promoter and former world champion Oscar De La Hoya’s exchange didn’t help either. On January 15, he tweeted, “I have no contract, deadline for me is Monday, or I’m moving on. #DavisGarcia.”

However, yesterday, through his Instagram handle, Oscar De La Hoya shared a picture with ‘KingRy’. It also carried a caption that read, “Devil is in the details. April let’s go!!!!”
The fans who came across the communique on Reddit were pretty much vocal about their thoughts and apprehensions.

Fans ask – will it or will it not?
User u/SupremeOpinion still has his doubts. This is because, for a hit-and-run case in November of 2020, Gervonta Davis is scheduled to appear in court in February to answer the allegations.
User u/LargeNutbar correlated the Davis case with Floyd Mayweather Jr.’s back in 2012. On December 11, 2011, Mayweather Jr. was sentenced to ninety days in prison. However, he served the term only by June 1, 2012, post his fight against Puerto Rican Miguel Cotto on May 5. In parallel, the user sought an excuse for being overly concerned about the Davis – Garcia fight rather than the case’s outcome.
User u/Trapaknese assured that there was nothing wrong in such a desire.
User u/SSJ4Autisuite is optimistic since Garcia, Davis, and Showtime are too invested in this fight to fail. More so since ‘KingRy’ promoted the fight heavily on ESPN’s show First Take. Last but certainly not the least, Showtime spoke about the fight explicitly through its series All Access.

User u/cuntyeagle, though, was not so hopeful, gave the instance of the Anthony Joshua versus Tyson Fury fight, post the latter’s win over Deontay Wilder.
User u/vHezoTheGoat mentioned that Ryan Garcia had seen the agreement. While he’s happy that it’ll be signed, Oscar’s tweet almost wrecked the fight. When another user asked him, “How did Oscar almost ruin the fight when he forced them to send the contract?” He replied that Ryan knew about the deal; fighters often sign deals in the same week when the fight takes place. But, he added, “Oscar forcing them to send it to be signed earlier publicly would’ve canceled the fight for no reason if they didn’t.”

The Davis – Garcia fight is one of the biggest duels all boxing fans would like to see. Talks of a battle between Oleksandr Usyk and Tyson Fury are yet to be finalized. Whereas it’s still unclear whether a bout between Errol Spence Jr. and Terence Crawford will take place at all. Hence, the latest news is sure to give a big fillip to a multitude of fans across the globe.
