Boxing veteran Alexander Povetkin succumbed to a dreadful career defeat against Dillian Whyte last weekend. The pair contested with each other to settle their unfinished business, thus determining the WBC interim heavyweight king. Whyte won this fight in the most ecstatic fashion and put a dent in the Russian’s extensive boxing career.
Following the events of ‘Rumble on the Rock’, Povetkin’s promoter, Andrey Ryabinskiy, was in an interview with Sky Sports. In the conversation, he shed some light on the ‘Russian Vityaz’s headspace after the Dillian Whyte loss and his future ahead.
“Yes, we’ve talked right after the fight. Sasha, of course, is upset that he couldn’t beat Dillian.”

“But it’s a sport, you need to be prepared for any outcome.”
“In my opinion, now is the best time to end his career,” said Ryabinskiy.
Nothing went right for the veteran in this fight. Right from the first bell, Whyte walked him down with his powerful blows to the face and body. Povetkin hardly landed any cosmic shots in the fight; he just couldn’t handle the polished version of Dillian Whyte.
It was in round 4 when the Brit caught him with a solid right hand, which left him wobbling. Whyte scored a vicious T/KO win in that round to settle his scores with the Russian.
The duo fought each other in August 2020, wherein Povetkin floored Whyte to the canvas. But the ‘Russian Vityaz’ looked washed up in this rematch, and consequently, he ended up on the losing side.
