Floyd Mayweather and Mike Tyson are both legends in the sport of boxing. However, that is not the only thing they have in common. The pair have also had brief stints with the WWE with Tyson working with the company in 1998 and Mayweather in 2008.

However, it turns out that Iron Mike was given a lot more money for his time with the company than Mayweather, according to renowned wrestling journalist Dave Meltzer. Back in 2017, before Money’s fight with Conor McGregor, Meltzer was asked by a fan about how much Mayweather earned during his WWE tenure, to which he replied “$2 million”.

Surprisingly, this was not the largest sum that WWE had given an athlete to work for them, as Metzler then reported Tyson was paid $3.5 million for his stint in the promotion.

Apparently, Tyson was paid almost $1.5 million more than Mayweather, but this wouldn’t matter much to money in hindsight as he has done quite well financially. Furthermore, WWE paid Tyson during the prime of his career and they would likely have to pay Mayweather a lot more If they want to get him to work with the company once more, a lot more than what Tyson got for sure.

Why was Mike Tyson paid $1.5 million more than Mayweather?

Although Tyson was paid $1.5 more than Mayweather, it was worth it for the company as the effect Iron Mike had on the audience during his time in the Attitude era was massive. Both the WWE and Tyson were at the peak of their popularity during the time and WWE paring Tyson with the company’s most popular stable DX made the paring one of the most iconic in sports.

Moreover, Tyson changing sides to partner with ‘Stone Cold Steve Austin at WrestleMania 14 served as the icing on the cake. Iron Mike’s stint with WWE was one of the most iconic ones in the company’s history and is still talked about in popular culture.
