Shakur Stevenson has established himself as one of the most prestigious fighters in boxing. The former champion doesn’t back down from challenges. And is known for giving his opponents a tough time while in the ring with him. With a perfect undefeated professional career so far, the boxer is only focused on adding numbers to his record. After dominating the featherweight division, he is now ready to take on new challenges in the Lightweight division this year.

Recently, the former champ took to Twitter to respond to one of the promotional legends of the sport who had words of appreciation for the New Jersey-raised boxer.

Stevenson’s reply to the legend

The CEO of Top Rank, Bob Arum, whose company is responsible for the promotion of the champ, shared a picture with Stevenson. While sharing the picture, Arum had only positive to say about the boxer training ahead of his next fight.

Stevenson is training to fight Shuichiro Yoshino in his first-ever fight as a lightweight. Arum also added that it was a special experience to watch Stevenson spar at the gym. The ‘Fearless’ responded to the remarks made by the iconic American promoter. Resharing the photo shared by the 91-year-old, Stevenson wrote, “Appreciate that coming from the legend himself.” Stevenson thanked Arum for his words.

The Featherweight boxer, Stevenson, is upping his boxing career by making a move to the Lightweight division. He updated his fans while he was gaining weight for the lightweight threshold. If there is one thing fans know about Stevenson, he likes to challenge himself. And this new chapter in his professional career will be entertaining for the boxing world.

Featherweight to Lightweight; Why is Stevenson moving?

The professionalism of the native of Newark is commendable. He is known for taking all his fights with severity and ensuring not to disappoint. Ahead of his fight with Robson Conceicao in 2022. He was not able to make the target weight of 130 lbs. As a result, he was asked to relinquish his titles even though he prevailed in the fight.

As a result of his failure to meet weight, Stevenson took to Twitter to announce his decision to move up in weight classes. He said, “I’ve been a professional my whole career and made weight, but my body can’t make 130 anymore. My health has to come first. I’m moving up to 135 in my next fight.”
