16 Years After Infamous Probe, Hollywood Celeb Shares His Take on Whether Evander Holyfield Was on PED’s

After his loss to Michael Moorer in 1994, Evander Holyfield unexpectedly retired due to a diagnosed heart condition identified by doctors following the fight. In 2007, another controversy erupted that seemed to point towards Holyfield’s use of HGH (human growth hormone) when a pharmacy in Alabama was raided. Investigators had found documents that showed Holyfield may have been a patient there.

Following these developments, the chairman of the Nevada Commission’s medical advisory board suggested that Holyfield’s earlier heart condition might have been an indication of the use of HGH. Now, almost 16 years later, Michael Jai White, in a recent interview with Vlad TV, added his two cents to the discussion. The accusations against Holyfield originated in 2007 from a questionable circumstance involving a steroid lab patient named ‘Evan Fields,’ who coincidentally shared the same birthday as Holyfield and hailed from the same neighborhood. Adding to the suspicion, when reporters contacted the patient, Holyfield reportedly answered the phone. These factors contributed to the brewing allegations against Holyfield.

During the 90s, drug testing procedures were not as rigorous and sophisticated as they are today. They allowed boxers to potentially clear substances from their systems before a fight. Consequently, many continue to harbor suspicions that Holyfield might have used steroids throughout his career. This is what led the interviewer to air his concerns about Holyfield being on Performance-Enhancing Drugs or PEDs.

While the interviewer eagerly waited for a response, White replied, “No, I wouldn’t know anything about that. Like I don’t, I’m no expert on that stuff at all.” and ended any hope of gaining some insight about the controversy.

June 28 marked the 26th anniversary of a memorable and unconventional event in sports history. Mike Tyson’s notorious ear-biting incident on Evander Holyfield during their rematch. In the initial bout, Holyfield clearly dominated the diminished Tyson. However, the rematch took a shocking turn when Tyson, desperate and weary, bit off a piece of Holyfield’s ear during a clinch. This led to Tyson’s immediate disqualification.

The aftermath included Tyson’s suspension until 1999, a $3 million fine, and legal repercussions. Tyson’s boxing license was reinstated in October 1998. Holyfield in the interview with DJ Vlad emphasized Tyson’s desperation, revealing that when Tyson’s initial attempt to impose fear on him failed, he resorted to a desperate act of biting Holyfield’s ear. “He thought I was gonna be scared. So, when I came and caught him that shot, he grabbed me and bit the other one,” revealed Holyfield.
