Takeoff was shot and killed outside a bowling alley after a private party, and Hussle was shot outside his clothing store. These deaths are a sobering reminder of the risks that rappers face on a daily basis. According to Mike Tyson, “So many rappers get killed. People become numb to it. So, they see it so much, it’s just that’s what they expect. That’s the norm, seeing a dead rapper, a black rapper or something.” This sentiment was echoed by Angie Martinez and French Montana.

French Montana also agreed with Jim Jones‘ statement that being a rapper is the most dangerous job. He compared it to going to war, but not knowing who the enemy is. “You know, like, you go to war, you know exactly what them people look like that you trying to kill. In here, you don’t know. I could be somebody that’s close to you,” he said. Tyson added, “That’s what a traitor is. He looks like you, he wears the same clothes that you wear, and he hangs out with the same girls you hang out with. He just doesn’t like you.”
