Alycia Baumgardner is one of the best pound-for-pound fighters in female boxing. In a short space of time, she has become an undisputed super featherweight champion. At this juncture of her career, she looks forward to a tougher and fresh challenge. For the same, she expressed her interest to try her hand at Mixed Martial Arts and UFC specifically.

Cross-sports events are prevalent in combat sports. However, it is not ubiquitous to see a boxer get into Mixed Martial arts but it has happened in the past. Previously, female boxer Clarissa Shield dipped her toes in the MMA world.

Baumgardner took to Twitter and stated, I need my debut in the @ufc”  She adds her reason why for the same.

She stated, I need to put this wrestling in the bag too.”

Former UFC world champion and fans react to Alycia Baumgardner’s wish to join the UFC

If it makes dollars, it makes sense. And the fans at large determine what makes the big bucks. Baumgardner received a spilt reaction from the fans for her desire to fight in Mixed Martial arts. Here are a few fan reactions to her tweet :

One fan expressed that it may not lucrative to dive into UFC. @Hankwanks: I would take the money fights in boxing first before talkin crazy like this”

Another fan does not seem it to be a wise idea given her skillsets.@mma_loki_crypto wrote: You will get smoked sadly, stick to boxing. Claressa has a chance, so maybe you could.”

While another expressed same sentiments as to why she would not fare well in the MMA world.

@stylebendernut wrote: yeah no, the ufc is too much of a step up. you would just get mauled on the ground for 15 minutes IF you could even get past the first minute. the wrestling and jiu jitsu of those ladies is ferocious but hey i’m just another dude at home trying to make it like you so whatever.”

On the contrary, one fan is of the opinion that she may have a shot in the sport if she approaches it right.

Lastly, former UFC world champion, CrisCyborg suggested the super featherweight boxing champion to train with her.
