Over the past few months, former kickboxer Andrew Tate has seen a meteoric rise in his popularity on social media. Tate has become famous for flaunting his wealth and lavish lifestyle while being brash and controversial. This has resulted in him becoming the poster boy for the so-called ‘Alpha Male Guru’.
Although Top G might be known for his kickboxing pedigree, a lesser-known fact about him was that he was also a very successful chess player in his childhood. In a podcast with Anthony Pompliano, Tate revealed the reason he couldn’t continue chess was because of his parents splitting up, which led him to pursue kick- boxing.

“I was growing up with chess, then my mother and father split up. My mom was English, wanted to go back to England, I was 11, 10, or 11 and in America chess was quite big in schools and obviously, I had my father as a coach who would take me to all these tournaments,” he said pointing out that his father’s absence cost him a coach.
The time when a 5-year-old Andrew Tate made a 16-year-old cry
Pompliano then asked Tate if he played chess a lot. The ‘Mafia’ kickboxer responded by claiming that he was the Indiana State champion when he was 5 years old and made a shocking revelation on how he made a 16-year-old player cry,” I was State Chess Champion age 5 in Indiana under 16. So I was the youngest ever to win it. I remember I was sitting there across some 16-year-old when you’re like 5 and a half. That’s scary right? and I remember when I beat him, he cried. That made me happy I was like Ha Ha, not so big now.” He said.

If Tate’s statement is true, it would certainly be considered an impressive achievement for him. While some people might not agree with Top G’s controversial views. It is very hard to label him as someone who is just famous on the internet for only his controversial views.
