The iconic battles between the two legends warranted talks for a potential fifth fight, however, this would not be the case, as Marquez rejected an offer of $150 million for the fight.
The time when Marquez rejected a $150 million offer to fight Pacquiao
Media outlet Boxing To Death received a statement from an interview of Marquez from a podcast appearance in Puerto Rico where he revealed that he was offered 150 million to fight Pacquiao.
“They already know that and it has been made open, I have told the public, I think that the fifth fight, as Iván comments, a large amount of money: USD 150 million was offered to me at the table for a fifth fight and I said: ‘No, I don’t want a fifth fight anymore.” He said.
Notably, he also stated that no amount of money could make him come back and assured him that his pride and love for the sport are more important to him than money, “Look, I told him, pride, dignity, love for the sport and the most important victory of my life are better because we had beaten the best pound-for-pound fighter at that time.” He added.
Marquez got the better of Pacquiao in their fourth fight, which might have led to the Filipino boxer offering him such a large amount of money to face him. Nevertheless, this never came to fruition as both fighters went their separate ways after the fourth fight.

A look into Manny Pacquiao and Juan Manuel Márquez’s rivalry
The main reason why this rivalry is considered to be one of the best in boxing was due to the sheer competitiveness between the two. The first fight was as close as it could be, leaving the judges to score it as a draw. The second fight in 2008 was also a close contest with Pacquiao getting the nod, winning via split decision. However, the fight could have gone either way, which led to a third fight.

The third fight took place in 2011 and for the second time in a row, Pacquiao ended up with the victory, this time via a majority decision. However, Marquez would get a chance at redemption one last time in their fourth fight. Dynamite made the most of this opportunity as he defeated Pac-Man for the first time in their four matches, knocking him out in the sixth round and getting the last laugh.
