Hollywood actor Michael B. Jordan is set to make his directorial debut with the latest edition of the Creed franchise. The Black Panther star has already played the role of Adonis Creed in the two previous parts and will now also direct the third part along with featuring in it. However, he wants to make this movie different from the rest as he revealed how he would approach the film.

In a recent interview at the premiere of the movie, Jordan spoke about the science of boxing and how it has garnered a bad reputation. Moreover, he stated that he wanted to add more Latino representation in the movie as according to him the Latino community was not aptly represented in the franchise, which includes Rocky and Creed movies.

I think boxing sometimes gets a bad rep for being just all violent and brawn, but it’s a very intelligent sport. The sweet science of it so to be able to kind of lean into it and show the different layers and levels of boxing was really, really important to me, especially from the Latino community. In this franchise, we haven’t had a prominent Latino fighter. So to be able to give it that first representation really meant a lot to me,” said Jordan.

However, the fans were not too happy with the actor’s comments as they shared their issues with his statement reacting to the interview.

Fans get upset with Michael B. Jordan and his comment

A fan called out Jordan’s comments claiming that the sport has a lot of Latino fighters. He also added a popular saying in the sport proving his point. “Does this foo not know that Latinos make the sport? Lol that is why people are always saying fight Mexican style,” they wrote.

Another fan claimed that undisputed super middleweight champion Canelo Alvarez, who will feature in the film was also Latino. “Canelo Alvarez is Latino though,” they wrote.

A user named B Tomas stated that Jordan never touted himself as a master of the sport. “MBJ never claimed to be a “Master” of boxing. LOLOLOL,” they wrote.

Lastly, a user named Rene Romero claimed that the Hollywood star does not possess great knowledge of the sport. “Bruh this man don’t know his boxing,” they wrote.

It can be said that fans have misinterpreted Jordan’s comments. While Jordan talks about having been humbly able to represent the Latino community in the movie, the fans misunderstood the actor. To the fans, Jordan was commenting on not having a proper representation of the Latino community in the sport of boxing. However, Jordan clearly talks about taking pride in introducing prominent Latino boxers in this franchise (Rocky/Creed).

Looking at the boxers featured in the franchise’s past, the actors portrayed the Americans and the Russians. Hence, Creed III would be the first installment in this franchise to feature Latino boxers. In the movie, the Latino community is well represented with stars like Canelo Alvarez, Jose Benavidez, and Teófimo López in it. Also, this would be the first movie in the franchise without Sylvester Stallone in it.
