After a nail-biting headliner against Jonathan Oquendo, Jamel Herring is still the WBO junior lightweight champion of the world. However, Herring seems vexed about the victory, as he was awarded the win by disqualification. That said, Herring was left with no other option.
He outstruck his opponent throughout the contest, securing two successful knockdowns in rounds three and five. Yet an illegal headbutt from Oquendo in the fifth round caused a lot of trouble for the champion. It clearly affected his vision as a nasty cut opened up. He still fought till the eight-round.
But before stepping into the ninth, Herring and his corner pulled out as Herring lost control over his sight. As a result, Oquendo was disqualified and the main-event ended abruptly.

World champion Jamel Herring will not celebrate the win against Oquendo
Herring turned to social media after his win and reflected on the main event. Despite retaining the title, he was disappointed in leaving the arena abruptly.

Now, a lot of fans have lashed at him, accusing him of taking the easy way out. However, it was Herring, who was dictating the fight until he suffered the injury on his head. That said, he hasn’t hesitated to fire back at his critics.

Jamel Herring vows to accept all the criticisms without celebrating his successful title defense. He has the spirit of a champion inside and outside the squared circle.
I accept all criticism, I’m not going to run and hide from it. Nor will I celebrate or making any excuses about tonight. If anything I’m more frustrated, and I need to tighten up for Frampton, simple as that.

However, he was about to lose his calm when someone brought his marine corps background into the mix. An Internet user named Bad Bear mocked the world champion for taking the win in such a way. He also labeled Herring as a “Quitter” and a disgrace to the marines.
In response, Hering wrote, “Say what you may about the fight, but please don’t ever bring my marine corps background in the mix. I’ll just leave it at, and I’m staying calm.”
