Boxing is full of surprises, but Teofimo Lopez losing his lightweight titles to George Kambosos Jr. wasn’t really a shock to several people. On looking at the first few rounds, it was clear that Kambosos Jr. was looking to win and destroy ‘The Takeover’. Although Lopez stood strong, he couldn’t register a successful title defense.
‘The Takeover’ stood strong for all 12-rounds. He even knocked down his opponent. However, he suffered the same in return and lost the fight via split decision to go 16-1 as a professional boxer.
Post the fight, Lopez crashed into George Kambosos Jr’s interview and delivered his raw emotions. He was clearly unhappy with the result and bashed the judges’ decision.

The remainder of the fight was also very close, and both the boxers had bruises all over. But their spirit was unmatched. From haymakers to technical jabs, their fight had it all. It was a shame that either man had to lose.
However, ‘Ferocious’ impressed the judges and earned his spot at the summit of the lightweight division. Given the close decision, a rematch could be on the cards.
