At this point, finding a needle in the haystack is easier than finding an opponent for Ryan Garcia. After some major twists and turns in Garcia’s storyline, he is back in negotiations with Devin Haney for a fight! While boxers aren’t known for apologizing for their actions, Garcia is willing to do that to make the fight happen.

Not so long ago, the Victorville native cast aside Devin Haney for a title fight against Rolly Romero. However, now that Romero has pulled a fast one on him, he is back on the market to court Haney into the ring. While Bill Haney has hinted at being open to negotiating the fight again, here’s what Garcia said recently in an interview with Fight Hype to elicit that response from Bill.

Speaking to Garcia, Ben Thompson from Fight Hype brought up the potential of the fight falling apart yet again, highlighting Oscar De La Hoya’s claim of opponents pricing themselves out. In response, ‘King Ry’ stated, “I guess the only thing I could say is maybe he felt disrespected [by] what I was saying online. Then he takes that to heart and then doesn’t want to do business.” said Garcia.

So, to prevent that from happening, Garcia made a brief apology to Haney! “I do want to make an apology of [sorts]…I won’t even say apology. I would just say, like what I meant [is] this game Devin, no disrespect, it’s just more of a banter in a way, mind games in a way. [Whatever way] you want to see it,” said Garcia.

However, Garcia suggested everything he said online about Haney – he meant it and made it clear that he was just trying to make the best business deals. “Was I being dead serious – yeah! I mean, what are you [going to] do? But, no, for real, I just want to make that clear, like I’m just out here trying to do the best business deals possible,” Garcia confessed. That aside, here’s the response Garcia got to the interview!

Are the negotiations really back on the table?

Not even hours had passed since Ryan’s interview went live, and it received a response from Devin Haney’s father, Bill Haney. The response came courtesy of Fight Hype. After listening to Garcia’s apology for ditching Haney, Bill agreed to talk. But not without throwing some shade at the Victorville native.

“I don’t know whether [to call him] crying Ryan [or] lying Ryan or is he on top of his game now Ryan,” said Bill. He also added, “Now, if you are serious and you are going to sign to the fight, you know we’ll talk about it!” Meanwhile, it’s worth mentioning that Devin mentioned “April 20th” in a mysterious tweet after the interviews, which could potentially be a fight date.

Even though Ryan Garcia has apologized for backstabbing Devin Haney, and Bill Haney is seemingly open to talks again, whether it produces fruit is yet to be seen. It’s also possible that Bill’s move is revenge in disguise to make Garcia even more desperate for an opponent. Do you think the fight would happen?

One take at a time

The first time boxing captured my attention, it was because of a line I heard in the film 'Rocky Balboa', a film surrounding boxing. The line went like this, "But it ain't about how hard ya hit. It's about how hard you can get hit and keep moving forward.
