The bout will take place on September 17 in Mexico, but the venue of the fight is yet to be announced.

The two have shared the ring previously in 2017 and 2018, with both fights being very closely contested where either man could have won.

The first fight between the two took place on September 16, 2017, at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas; The fight was very close, and many believed that Golovkin won the fight, but in the end, it was scored as a draw.

The second fight took place on September 15, 2018, at the same venue. Similarly, this was also a very close fight, but Alvarez won the fight via decision. However, Golovkin was not happy with the scoring and believed it was much closer than what the scorecards reflected.

Many fans are of the opinion that the third fight is a ‘waste of time’ as Golovkin is now 40 years old and past his prime. Meanwhile, he has only fought in three fights in the three-and-a-half years since the second Alvarez fight due to the pandemic.

Alvarez, on the other hand, has won seven fights in succession since dethroning Golovkin and he is widely considered the best pound-for-pound boxer. He has won over Sergey Kovalev and undefeated champions, Callum Smith, Billy Joe Saunders, and Caleb Plant.

This is why fans feel that instead of facing Golovkin for the third time, Alvarez should look out for tougher competition in his division in David Benevidez, Charlo Twins, or even a rematch with Dmitry Bivol.
