When the debate on trans athlete’s inclusiveness is intense and spreading like wildfire, the former boxing legend Mike Tyson dropped an interesting one line reaction.

In his podcast, ‘HotBoxin’, ‘The Baddest Man on Planet’ said, “listen they allow them to participate. Who are we to talk.”

It was a response of Tyson to Maher’s argument that Men and Women are different.

Putting forth an example of legendary tennis icon Serena Williams, Maher advocated the unfair advantage that trans-athletes have over female athletes in the latter’s category.

He said, “You can’t discount all these women who say it’s unfair to me. I’m competing against essentially a man who has you know testosterone even if they’re taking hormones or something. There’s a lot of it. They have bigger muscle mass and more bone density.”

Furthermore, he added how things could change if players could compete with the other gender. According to Maher’s knowledge, if Serena Williams played in the men’s circuit and Williams is obviously powerful and an amazing athlete, but even then she’d be like 700th in the world.

Quoting Williams’ confession, Maher said, “She even said once when I played against a man. I didn’t realize that I hit shots that no woman could get to and he got to them easily. So obviously there are differences between men and women. Could we just agree on that.

Keeping it simple, Tyson agreed with Maher’s claim.

Why did Mike Tyson and Maher discuss trans athletes?

Recently, the trans athlete, Lia Thomas’ dominance in the 500-yard freestyle event at the US collegiate championship heated the debate if it was fair to allow trans-athletes in the female circuit. Though it was a moment to be proud of for Thomas to secure top-position, it still became a subject of much debate.

Similar to Thomas, the New Zealand Weightlifter Laurel Hubbard clinched gold in women’s circuit in 2020 Tokyo Olympics. Such names have only raised fingers on the fairness of sport. Though the debate is still ongoing, Tyson believes it’s not his place to pass judgement.
