After two decades of royal dominance over five divisions, Floyd Mayweather Jr. retired from professional boxing for good in 2017. However, he embarked on a new career the following year, participating in exhibition matches. He fought his first match against Tenshin Nasukawa on December 31, 2018. Then he took on YouTuber-turned-boxer Logan Paul three years later, on June 6, 2021. Trouble brewed after the fight.

Who is Joseph Englanoff, and what factors prompted him to file a lawsuit against Floyd Mayweather?

According to ‘therealdeal.com,’ Joseph Englanoff is a Los Angeles-based Emergency Room doctor and real estate developer. He is famous for luxurious spec homes. He put for sale in February last year a brand-new 35k square feet Bel-Air mansion called’ La Fin’ for $139 million. Reportedly, he was one of the lenders with an unfinished mansion billed ‘The One.’ Intended to be the most expensive residence in Los Angeles, it was sold at an auction for roughly $126 million.

Last year, the California state court received a case against Floyd Mayweather Jr., Mayweather Promotions, and Al Haymon. The plaintiff was Yogi Securities Holding LLC, with its executive Joseph Englanoff. He alleged that Mayweather and one more defendant, Jona Rechnitz, seemingly lured him into investing in the tickets for an exhibition match between Mayweather Jr. and Logan Paul at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami, Florida.

What accusations did Englanoff make against Floyd Mayweather, and how is this lawsuit related to Logan Paul and Al Haymon?

According to the February 2022 article in ‘boxingtalk,’ Englanoff’s complaint states that he received a proposal to purchase a generous amount of tickets for the Mayweather Jr.-Logan Paul bout at their displayed price. The objective was to sell those tickets at a higher price to fans and followers subsequently. So reportedly, per the agreement, Joseph Englanoff spent $1.4 million. On the earnings made through the reselling, the deal entailed a seventy-five and twenty-five split between Mayweather Jr., Al Haymon, and Englanoff, respectively.

However, even a week after the contest, Englanoff reportedly never received any money despite his inquiries. When he further persisted, he received an update on the amount’s reinvestment in a matching deal for an upcoming boxing match (August 21, 2021) between Manny Pacquiao and Yordenis Ugas. So it seems that Jona Rechnitz informed Englanoff about the delay in receiving his investment. Hence he will receive $5 million! However, by July end, he reported receiving only $100k.

According to Joseph Englanoff, he received an email stating he would get $4.88 million in August. Additionally, the revenue from the Pacquiao- Ugas match will accrue. Hence he expected around $5,743,000 to come his way. But once again, he received another $100k. Englanoff checked for the remaining balance. However, he received information on his money reinvested for the trilogy match between Tyson Fury and Deontay Wilder.
