With Only $106 in Bank Account, a Pregnant Wife, and $300 Debt in Rent, Sylvester Stallone Did His Life’s Greatest Work While He Was ‘Emotionally, Physically, Spiritually Bankrupt’

Sylvester Stallone has made his place in the hearts of millions of boxing fans through his ‘Rocky’ franchise. It is safe to say that watching ‘Rocky’ attracted much attention to the sport. And eventually, the people became fans. Notably, portraying the fearless boxer on the big screen proved to be a life-changing moment for the actor. But, despite his successes in the industry, Stallone comes from a lifestyle of hard work, poverty, and dedication.

Before he starred in ‘Rocky.’ The actor was living a life of hardships. And struggling with money. He used to play insignificant roles earlier, which did not lead him anywhere. But, just like ‘Rocky Balboa’ in the movie. Stallone got one shot at glory, and the rest is history.

In a famous interview, Stallone discussed all the motivating factors he had in his life to writing the script of the franchise’s first iteration in less than four days. And it is safe to say that the actor’s own personal life is no less than a Hollywood movie.

Stallone could see ‘the wolf at the door’

In an old interview with Barry Norman in 1977, Stallone talked about the movie and gave Norman an insight into his life. But importantly, Stallone talked about the factors in his life that motivated him to write the story of Rocky Balboa in such a short time.

Stallone said, “At that time, I must admit, My life was definitely on the wane, at least professionally. I was emotionally, spiritually, physically bankrupt.” Further, the actor went on to give an insight into his grueling financials. At the time, he had $106 in his bank accounts. But, his rent itself was about $300. And, with all of this, his wife was pregnant. Stallone joked and said, “You might say I had quite a bit of fuel to sit down and write the script.”

Stallone was able to write the script in three and a half days as he could “hear the wolf at the door.” The actor further discussed his mentality about failure. He said, “If I was to go down, at least in professional obscurity. I wanted to at least have the opportunity to say to myself at least you tried. “This is a strong message the fans can draw from the life of Stallone, who is inculcated in the boxing hall of Fame.
