What advice did Ryan Garcia’s coach have for him?

A video surfaced on X, shows a corner exchange between Derrick James and Garcia between rounds. James tells Garcia to keep his composure. He guided the out-of-breath boxer, saying, “Keep boxing him, at the same time don’t open up too wide. Keep your composure. You gotta give him nothing right now.” The fight had been going Garcia’s way before the stoppage. But, the breakthrough came in the 8th round.

In the clip, James can be heard telling Garcia, “Listen, when he comes, you can break his legs. See, when he up like this, he not set to punch. So when he up, he bounces. You can hit him right?” King Ry did exactly what he was told to do. He went up wide and set his punches up, destroying Duarte’s balance. Duarte lost his footing and went on his knees. He was only able to get up as the referee counted to 10. Garcia emerged victorious. Derrick James proved himself as a formidable coach after many had previously been critical of him.
