“You Can Run, You Can’t Hide”: David Benavidez’s Dad Sends Clear Message to Canelo Alvarez After Caleb Plant Victory

The two-time WBC super middleweight champion, David Benavidez, recently proved his mettle against the former IBF super middleweight champion, Caleb Plant. At the end of 12 rounds, he was declared the winner by decision. And, in turn, retained his WBC super middleweight title. Meanwhile, there have been speculations about the next big fight in line for him. But, it looks like team Benavidez is adamant about an undisputed fight against Canelo Alvarez.

Benavidez has long eyed a fight against Alvarez. However, Benavidez’s father, Jose Benavidez Sr., strongly believes that Alvarez is ducking ‘The Mexican Monster’.
This was, in fact, a point that he had stressed during the pre-fight presser. When asked about the same, Benavidez Sr. said, “If I was Canelo. If I was his trainer, I would do the same thing. I would run from ‘The Mexican Monster’. And, I would try to ignore that. But, at the end of the day, you know, you can run, you can’t hide.”
He further added, “In order for Canelo to live his legacy, and make history, he already made history. But, everywhere you go, they see Canelo, they ask him about ‘The Mexican Monster’. Everywhere I go they ask me about Canelo.” In the same vein, David Benavidez also made it a point to call out Alvarez after his win against Plant.

David Benavidez sends an ultimatum to Canelo Alvarez
While he called Alvarez out after the fight. It should be mentioned that he had issued an ultimatum to the champ ahead of his fight against Plant. When asked about his plans after fighting Plant, Benavidez made it a point to remind everyone that he was eyeing an Alvarez fight. He said, “We would have to see you know, I think, I want to fight Canelo, just to prove myself down the best 168 but if he doesn’t want to fight then of course that’s the route we would go.”
