Combat sports are among the oldest form of sports in history. Fans’ two favorite sports, boxing, and MMA, have recently seen a couple of cross-over bouts that turned out to be highly appreciated by fans. As such, Mexican boxing icon Canelo Alvarez was recently quizzed about fighting UFC fighters, take a look at what he had to say.

While talking to FightHype.com, Canelo Alvarez complimented Kamaru Usman by calling him a great fighter and in the light of Usman’s recent loss, Alvarez pointed out that anyone can lose in combat sports. Following that, he was asked about what he had to say about Usman calling him out. Alvarez replied, “Not now, I want to have great fights and make history in boxing. And then maybe when I am finished boxing, maybe I can do that kind of fights.” 

Interestingly, Usman stated on the ‘I Am Athlete’ podcast, “I beat Jake Paul. Nobody cares. You’re supposed to beat him. I still get a bank account now. I still get that. I beat Canelo, biggest athlete in the world, not even close, 100 million in the bank. If I’m gonna gamble, I’m gonna gamble well.”

Well, the Mexican wants to have great fights in boxing first, then maybe he will be open to fighting other opponents. Usman expects a $100 million payday from fighting Alvarez, but only time will tell when the clash happens.

Jake Paul and Usman, both have challenged Alvarez to a matchup. The Mexican, nevertheless, ignored such cries. However, in light of Alvarez’s remarks, Usman and Paul may have opportunities to challenge him in the future. 

Canelo Alvarez’s next big fights 

Boxing fans witnessed one of the biggest upsets in the sport as Russian boxer Dmitry Bivol defeated the Mexican king. It came as a big shock to the world as Alvarez had not been defeated since he last fought Floyd Mayweather back in 2013.

Now the 32-year-old is focusing on his upcoming trilogy fight with Gennady Golovkin. The two have fought twice before, where the first clash ended in a draw. The second time, however, Alvarez outclassed GGG and emerged as the winner. Both fights were highly appreciated by fans, and they truly lived up to the expectations. Now fans are looking forward to witnessing the third clash between the two titans.

Furthermore, Alvarez and Bivol have agreed to fight again inside the squared circle for a second time. Following his fight with Golovkin, there is a high probability that Alvarez will go up against Bivol again.
