The Super Bowl halftime performances have been one thing audiences look forward to, as we know this year Rihanna graced the stage and put on an extraordinary show even though she was pregnant. The halftime performances have featured some of the greatest musicians and artists. From Eminem, Dr. Dre, Lady Gaga, Beyonce, and Bruno Mars to Prince, Paul McCartney, and The Rolling Stones, a lot of artists have left the audience screaming and enthralled.
However, one performance out of all these has managed to stick out even after all these years. It was when Michael Jackson gave one of the most legendary shows ever witnessed. However, as his son Prince Jackson appeared on Mike Tyson‘s podcast, he gave out a surprising detail about the much-remembered performance.

Recently, Prince Jackson made his appearance on Hotboxin’ with Mike Tyson. There he shared several unknown things about the beloved pop star. At one point during the video, Prince addressed Jackson’s famous 1993 Super Bowl performance. He stated, “Interesting story I actually just saw about the Super Bowl in 93′. When he pops up and just stands there and does nothing right and the crowds’ going crazy. Insane!”

He then shared an interesting detail, that the cheering of the crowd in the video, was not original, rather it was edited. Prince stated, “The interesting thing about it is [that] they added in the crowd sound effects.” He stated that it was because “Super Bowl never had a star like that perform until that time.” Furthermore, he claimed that when the ‘King of Pop’ just stood there, the audience thought that there was a “technical difficulty or malfunction so everybody was quiet.”
This led them to add the audience performance. Jackson’s son claimed, “So they added in the audience performance and that just added to the legend that is Michael Jackson.”

Jennifer Batten was the guitarist during Jackson’s performance that chill January evening during Super Bowl XXVII’s halftime show. Speaking of the incident in an interview with The U.S. Sun, she talked about the time she got to work with one of the greatest artists of the time. According to Batten Michael Jackson was a “supreme athlete”, who was a perfectionist and just wanted to deliver his best to the audience.
She stated that over the 10 years, that was the first time she had felt that Jackson was nervous about his performance. This is because the ‘Dangerous’ artist, felt it wasn’t his audience at the stadium. He was worried that the football fans wouldn’t like his performance. Moreover, as this was a live show any failure would be captured by the cameras. In Batten’s words, “That is a hell of a lot of pressure. I wouldn’t want my name on the marquee.”

Overall, in hindsight, the pop star was just worried over nothing as the whole stadium was mesmerized by his performance. To this day, his performance brings a lot of great memories to people.
