Cleveland Cavaliers 2022: News, Schedule, Roster, Score, Injury Report

The Cleveland Cavaliers compete in the NBA as a part of the Eastern Division in the Eastern Conference. To date, the Cavaliers have one championship to their name, which came in 2016.

Cleveland has been a part of the association for so many years, and their logo has changed designs often. Their latest one embodies the team’s identity, as they’re also known as the ‘Musketeers’. A black shield outlined by burgundy and yellow, containing the team’s name in white, with a large C that is intertwined by a sharp sword, completes the Cavs’ logo

The team plays their home games at the Rocket Mortgage FieldHouse, a multi-purpose arena located in downtown Cleveland, Ohio. The arena also plays host to the Cleveland Monsters of the National Hockey League (NHL).

Who owns the Cleveland Cavaliers?

The Cleveland Cavaliers are a huge organization, and the majority stake is owned by billionaire businessman Dan Gilbert. He is the co-founder of Quicken Loans, and Gilbert’s net worth is estimated to be $45.9 billion by Forbes.

Moreover, singer/songwriter Usher also owns a minority stake in the Cavs, but his numbers are not disclosed. He invested in the team back in 2005 and still continues to be a major fan while owning a small part of the franchise

Kobe Altman currently serves as the General Manager of the Cleveland Cavaliers. Altman joined the front office in 2012 and gradually earned his way up in the ranks. The Cavs took the move of hiring him as the GM in 2017.

J. B. Bickerstaff is the current Head Coach of the Cleveland Cavaliers, and he was hired in 2020. Bickerstaff took over the duties from John Beilein, who fired after just one year at the job.

History

The Cleveland Cavaliers came into the NBA as an expansion team in 1970. The franchise hasn’t relocated from Cleveland ever since its inception. They didn’t enjoy great success at the start, as the Cavs only made the playoffs in their sixth year in the league.

Their first playoff appearance came in 1976, which also marked their maiden division title. However, what followed was a period of massive struggle as the Cavs missed a postseason ticket for six consecutive years from 1979-84.

After coming past a difficult 80s decade, the Cavs began brightly in 1992 by making it to the conference finals. Seven-foot big man Brad Daugherty spearheaded the team but failed to guide them to the NBA Finals.

After years of struggles, the Cleveland Cavaliers saw their fortunes change in 2003. Upon receiving the #1 pick in the draft, they immediately selected high-school talent LeBron James, who inarguably goes down as their greatest player in history.

Within a period of a few years, LeBron James and the Cavs made a monumental run by reaching the 2006 NBA Finals. James averaged 22.0 points in the finals, but the Cavs were swept by a more experienced San Antonio Spurs team.

However, LeBron stayed true to words when he promised Cleveland that he would bring them a championship. James left the Cavs in 2010, but returned in 2014 and took them to four straight finals trips.

His partnership with Kyrie Irving was breathtaking to watch, and the Cavaliers completed one of the greatest comebacks in sporting history when they won the 2016 NBA championship after being down 1-3 in the series. This marked Cleveland’s first major sporting title since 1964.

Cavaliers mascot and uniforms

The Cleveland Cavaliers have two official mascots: ‘Moondog’ and ‘Sir C.C.’ Both mascots have been around for a while with the team, and they represent the spirit of the city.

The name Moondog came to the mascot as disc-jockey Alan Freed called himself the ‘Moondog’ in the 1950s and revolutionized the music explosion in the city. Cleveland was and is still known as the ‘Rock and Roll’ city, and the credits go to Freed for coining the term.

As for Sir C.C., he is an “original expression of the wine and gold” as mentioned in the Cavs’ website. He’s been an avid fan of the team since the 1970-71 season and appears at every home game.

Cleveland’s primary colors have always been wine and gold. They’ve sported these colors since their early years in the league. After Nike took over jersey manufacturing in 2017, the Cavs have been wearing “wine” colored Icon uniforms, and “white” colored Association uniforms.

Team’s Sponsors

The main sponsor of the Cleveland Cavaliers Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company. The Cavs have been donning Goodyear’s patch on their uniforms, just like the rest of the teams in the association.

Besides Goodyear, the Cavs have tie-ups with other companies, namely Mountain Dew, Stock X, and Lyft.
