Draymond Green is finally eligible to suit up for the Golden State Warriors. He was reinstated by the NBA following a 12-game suspension for taking a swing at Suns Center Jusuf Nurkić and making excessive contact with his head. During the suspension, Draymond went through counseling to reflect on his actions and get better. He revealed on his podcast that he even considered retiring and had a conversation about it with NBA Commissioner Adam Silver.
However, former NBA players called “Cap” on Draymond Green’s retirement story because of the $100 million due on his contract.

NBA legends Gilbert Arenas, Kenyon Martin, and Nick Young discussed Draymond Green’s return from suspension on Gil’s Arena podcast. During the episode, they played the video of Draymond talking about his conversation with Adam Silver. Green claimed he told Silver, “It’s all becoming too much for me, and I’m going to retire.” The NBA Commissioner talked the 4-time Champion out of retirement. When Kenyon Martin was asked what he thought of Green’s retirement story, he responded, “I call cap if I look at the money aspect of it.”

Draymond is in the first year of his 4-year $100 million contract he signed during the off-season. He still has three and a half years left on his contract and is due a lot of money. According to the NBA legends, Draymond would not have given up that money and retired before his contract expired.
According to Martin, if we exclude the money aspect, Draymond’s decision would be understandable given the recent challenges he has experienced.

Draymond Green has played a certain way ever since he entered the NBA. Most nights, he was not the biggest or most skilled player on the court. So, Draymond used his aggression and passion to make up for his deficits and put everything on the floor. His effort and resilience made Draymond one of the best defenders in the NBA and helped the Warriors win 4 Championships. But with high aggression and passion came a lot of on-court drama. Draymond started getting into altercations with his opponents, causing trouble for his team.
If Draymond can get rid of his on-court antics, he can help the Warriors turn their season around. Green is one of the most experienced players in the league. His leadership can help the young Warriors players make better decisions on the court. All he needs to do is put his hands off his opponents and not get in trouble.
