Dennis Schroder Shares Heartbreaking Family Post Days After Raptors Dumped $13 Million Salary to Nets

While many fans complained of the inactivity before the NBA Trade deadline on February 8th, it’s safe to say Dennis Schröder, the German point guard, had the opposite reaction. In an unexpected turn of events, the Toronto Raptors traded Schroder and Thaddeus Young to the Brooklyn Nets for Spencer Dinwiddie.
In a recent Instagram share, the now Nets’ point guard, Dennis, celebrates his son’s 5th birthday although it’s not all sunshine and rainbows. What catches the eyes of the fans is the “Raptors” themed birthday cake with the caption, “yes we planned before I got Traded 😅”. Looks like there was absolutely no communication between Schroeder and his former team, leading to a somewhat awkward/funny birthday surprise (depending on one’s perspective).
The German PG played in every one of the 51 games repping the Toronto Raptors. Despite averaging decent stats (13.7 points, 2.7 rebounds, and 6.1 assists with 35% 3-point shooting), the Raptors, in a rebuilding phase, opted to trade him and Young in a salary dump to free up cap space and playing time for the team’s youngsters.

While this trade may or may not prove to be beneficial for the Raptors, it certainly seems promising for the seasoned point guard. The Brooklyn Nets had their last showdown with the Antonio Spurs on February 10th and before the game, speculations were afoot whether the team would play Dennis or not. But the 30-year-old PG was given a chance and he smashed it!

Schroder had an impressive Nets debut, joining the company of NBA legends like James Harden, Deron Williams, and Kelvin Ransey by becoming the 4th player to record a double-double (15 points, 12 assists). The Nets, fueled by Schroder’s contribution, secured a dominant victory over the Wembanyama-led Spurs, breaking their 3-game losing streak.
