The Warriors’ win tonight was extra sweet. The Big 3 of the Dubs have been through thick and thin for 12 years now. Talking about the experience, the trio is awed that so much time has passed. Stephen Curry and Klay Thompson had hit it straight off the bat. With Draymond Green entering the dual-headed ‘Splash Brothers’, they pretty much became the three-headed Hydra, a nightmare for the opposing teams.

With four titles under their belt during the Curry-Thompson-Green era, they are looking to clinch the fifth this season.

Talking to the media post-game, Curry explained the bond these three men share. “We’ve never asked any of us to change who we are,” Curry said.

The solid connection didn’t happen overnight. Of course, as Curry emphasizes, love for basketball is what kept them together. And it’s also what has kept them going, even in the face of adversity. On the court, they complement each other so well that it’s easy for them to understand what one is trying to convey with just a slight nod or a look.

But for this to work, their off-court relationship had to have a solid foundation. It’s quite obvious by now that’s the case. From sitting together on plane rides to sitting at the same table and coming to the rescue in any given situation (going as far as choking someone), their friendship has gone through every test there is.

When their friendship had reached the 10-year mark, Green had talked at length about why they worked. It was along the lines of what Curry has said above. “Our bond stretches far past what we accomplished on the basketball court,” he confirmed.

Truer words were never spoken. The friendship the ‘Splash Brothers’ and Green share is a testament to what Green had said.

“Those bonds will last forever. We are linked and connected together forever,” Dray said with conviction. And why wouldn’t he? When Stephen Curry and Klay Thompson arrived in the Warriors, they were in a period of struggle. Along with Draymond, the three built the Golden State into the dynasty they were.

An experience could have played out differently as well. As Green mentions, Bob Myers was genuinely confused as to how they managed to stay grounded while not letting ego creep into their relationship. Not that such a situation was unlikely. Individually, they’re all highly competitive players.

It’s quite easy to get carried away with the fame it brought. Yet, they have learned to play off each other’s strengths and create history. It is definitely “special”. Here’s to wishing their friendship continues just as strong!
