Celtics Superstar Triggers Rare Shaquille O’Neal and Charles Barkley Moment of Agreement on Live TV
Typically, the TNT crew isn’t easy on centers. Having two of the best big men of their generation on the squad – Shaquille O’Neal and Charles Barkley – pushes the standard very high. As a result, a big guy’s playing impressing them is a genuine rarity. However, over the years, there have been a few names that have given the two pause. But, aside from obvious candidates like Nikola Jokic, one name might slowly be entering the race. The prize acquisition for the Boston Celtics this off-season, Kristaps Porziņģis.
“It is my opinion, based on experience, and other factors, we all know that [Jayson] Tatum and [Jaylen] Brown, they’re the one-two punch. So, that automatically puts Porzingis to an “other”. But, he is a vital “other”. He’s not just a regular other,” Shaq said.

The big man then went on to compare him to some of the most iconic role players in history. “He’s like a Horace Grant, a Big Shot Bob [Robert Horry], a Rick Fox. And I believe, if he plays like this, if he continues to play like this, Boston can win the Championship. I mean, the Boston Celtics are the favorites in the East. But what I’m trying to say is, that he’s the key, Ernie. ”
While the superstars will play their best, the Latvian is the X-factor for this squad. “Tatum and Brown are gonna do their thing. But, if he’s gonna average 20, the most he averaged in Washington and New York is 23, now he’s averaging 20, shooting a career-high 53%. In order for them to get to the next level, he’s the key and that’s why he’s not just an other, but he’s a vital other.”
Moreover, the Los Angeles Lakers legend even found agreement with his rival/friend Charles Barkley.

After agreeing with Shaq’s assessment, Barkley would take it a step further. “He’s the best number 4 in the league by far. Nobody else even in conversation. It’s gonna come down to Tatum and Brown. Because the one weakness they have is they take awful shots.”
In that scenario, the addition of Jrue Holiday and his point-guard capabilities could prove to be the difference-maker. “Everything they got from Porzingis is a bonus. But, you got 2 guys who are gonna be All-Star.”
