Stepping into a wrestling ring can be a difficult task for many. But when you are squaring off against a giant who stands at more than 7ft, there are bound to be butterflies in the stomach. This was the case with Jake “The Snake” Roberts who was handed the difficult proposition of coming against a towering performer.
There have been some tall competitors in WWE but no one has come close to matching Andre the Giant in terms of aura. And Roberts recently described how it was a daunting task going against the iconic wrestler.

Roberts recently interacted with the VladTV podcast recently and discussed his high-profile feud with Andre the Giant. The rivalry between both competitors began in the 1989 Royal Rumble match. Which led to a match in WrestleMania V. Roberts accompanied by Bobby Heenan won the encounter via a DQ. Big John Studd was notably the special guest referee for the clash.

Speaking about the match Roberts said, “Oh, it was incredible when you know. I had so much respect for him. He was so powerful. He weighed over 500 pounds and there is no way in hell I’m gonna beat this guy.”
He continued, “No way in hell, I was just praying that I survived it. That was my wish that I just get out of there ok. But it was quite the experience for me”.
It’s hard to disagree with Roberts knowing full well about the sheer size of the mammoth performer.
The Eighth Wonder Of The World was also afraid of the snake which was regularly carried by Roberts to the squared circle. Although he himself admittedly feared serpents initially.

It was always a source of intrigue whether the Giant was really fearful of the reptile or whether it was just great character work on his part.
Was Andre the Giant really afraid of snakes?
Roberts finally lifted the lid on the years of speculation around the matter. He revealed that the mammoth performer was not afraid of anything in real life and it was the result of his immaculate character portrayal from him.
It was definitely a unique site to witness such a towering athlete be afraid of a snake. That had led to rumors being always around the industry on its validity.

But the clarification by the WWE Hall of Famer surely brought an end to the speculations.
Andre the Giant is among a rare breed of performers and it would have been an unusual experience coming against him in the ring. Any wrestler of normal size, such as Jake Roberts, is likely to get jitters when facing him in the squared circle. And as admitted by him that was the case.
