There are few fans who don’t know that WWE products are barely original. Being a scripted entertainment sport, the business largely depends on deriving inspiration from various wakes of life and then providing it with a unique identity. But it seems like there are some industry insiders who still didn’t get this truth and hence made a huge fuss over petty similarities between superstars from time to time.

The latest rebel in the room was legendary wrestler Dutch Mantell. You might know him better as the dirtiest man in the business. Because the 73-year-old’s villainous shade of character perfectly justified his ‘Dirty’ moniker. He made it known throughout many wrestling territories over the years. So, quite obviously, he’s not sold on the idea of a new superstar sporting his signature name to the point of accusing WWE of stealing his in-ring prefix.

Dutch Mantell takes a shot at WWE for bringing a new ‘Dirty’ man to the mix

Dominik Mysterio, one of the hated heels on the roster, has recently embraced his new WWE Raw nickname. During last week’s Monday Night Raw, Rhea Ripley boldly stated, “Dirty Dom says he wants to fight Seth Freakin’ Rollins tonight,” stunning the crowd. WWE unveiled an official graphic for the match with ‘Dirty Dom’s name in it followed it. Thus it was made clear that it’s not just a pet name Mami’s going to use for her kayfabe man, rather it’s something WWE is behind.

The aftermath had the former ‘Dirty’ man outraged. He jumped on Twitter to vent out his utter disgust over the whole matter. WWE’s Zeb Colter thanked the company for being this original. Needless to say, he framed it sarcastically.

The superstar wrote, “WTF?? @WWEjust blatantly ripped off my DIRTY name by now calling Dominick Misterio, Dirty Dominick? That doesn’t even sound right. There’s only one DIRTYMAN and it’s Dirty Dutch Mantell. Thanks, WWE for being so original. Bastages. @WSI_YouTube [sic],”

His frustration led him to make another post directly blasting Triple H and Vince McMahon for christening Dom Dom with his name.

The name “Dirty Dutch” is legendary. @WWE, just like a thief in the night, decided to bestow the Dirty moniker on Dominick Misterio. If they really wanted to be original, they would have called him Sucio, which is Spanish for Dirty. Thanks, @TripleH, @VinceMcMahon @WSI_YouTube [sic],” he wrote in the follow-up tweet.

Now, you might question how justified it is for him to question WWE regarding this matter. Let us dig a bit deeper into that.

Does Dutch Mantell’s claim against WWE hold weight?

While Dutch Mantel’s frustration as the first beholder of the prefix, ‘Dirty’ is quite understandable, he wasn’t the one to popularize the term most. Well, for a non-wrestling background man, the term dirty first depicts the picture of the legendary Michael Jackson, the creator of the song Dirty Diana, which took the world by storm around 1987. Although it was Mantell who brought the name to the wrestling arena first, Jackson took it beyond.

On top of it, Mantell wasn’t the only one to use that particular adjective before his name. It’s been also popular with names like Murdoch and Slater.

So, it’s subject to debate whether his frustrations over WWE make sense or not. In either case, we can expect a trademark and merchandise for that moniker soon.
