Coco Gauff’s Successful Run at Adelaide International Earns Her a New Milestone

16-year-old Coco Gauff has been a great stalwart already in her short WTA career. She has already had one WTA title and is the youngest player in the top 100. Since her breakthrough at Wimbledon 2019, she has soared in the rankings and now finds herself in the top 40 after a strong performance at Adelaide International 2021.
After a slow start to 2021, Gauff reached her first WTA 500 semifinal in Adelaide. By defeating her compatriot Shelby Rogers in a brilliant comeback victory, Gauff earned her place in the semifinals. With this, she has also earned a lot of points which will push her even further up the rankings.

Gauff had started the WTA Adelaide ranked 52nd. She had dropped out of the top 50 after an early exit in the Australian Open. But now, she will at least jump back into the top 50 and reach the ranking of 38th with 1632 points if she loses her semifinal match.
Before the tournament, Gauff had 1423 points and will add at least 209 points to that tally with her run into the semifinals at Adelaide. While players earn 185 points when they reach the semifinals of a WTA 500 event, Gauff was also a qualifier and so will bag an extra 25 points, taking her tally at the event to 210.
How high can Coco Gauff go in the WTA rankings?
Barring any unfortunate problems, this is only the beginning of Gauff’s rise in the sport. She could be World No.31 if she wins the WTA Adelaide International, earning 495 points that will push her inside the top 32. If Coco wins the semis and loses the final, then she will earn 330 points and reach the World No. 36 spot.

If Gauff can remain around the 30-mark in the WTA rankings, it will be amazing for her prospects in the season. With the next Grand Slam being the French Open in May 2021, she could win a few more points and get inside the top 32 which will enable her to enter the Major as a seeded player.

If she gets inside the top 32 and remains there until the French Open, then she might be one of the youngest players to be seeded at a Grand Slam event.
