Former England cricketer Kevin Pietersen recently expressed his anger towards the killing of a pregnant elephant in India. He is an animal activist and has many times accepted his love for animals. 

The brutal incident of elephant killing has shocked everyone in the country and many famous personalities have addressed this issue on their social media. This inhuman activity took place in the Palakkad district of Kerala where a pregnant elephant was fed with a pineapple stuffed with firecrackers. When the elephant started eating it, the crackers burst, seriously injuring its upper and lower jaw and tongue. To get some relief from the pain, the animal took shelter inside a river. However, it died while standing in water. 

Expressing his disappointment and disgust on this animal abuse, Kevin Pietersen shared the picture of the dead elephant on his Instagram handle. Kevin wrote, “DISGUSTED with the images I’ve been sent from India overnight over the senseless brutality of this mummy elephant. Why would someone do this?!?! Just why?!?”

Indian cricketers take a stand against animal abuse

Many Indian cricketers paid condolence to the elephant and expressed their shock on such inhuman activity. Indian cricket team captain Virat Kohli tweeted in context with the same incident. His tweet read, “Appalled to hear about what happened in Kerala. Let’s treat our animals with love and bring an end to these cowardly acts,” 

India’s white-ball cricket vice-captain Rohit Sharma and test cricket vice-captain Ajinkya Rahane also reacted on such a brutal incident through their social media accounts. Rohit Sharma said, “I can’t believe where humanity is headed. How could someone murder an innocent, harmless, beautiful creature like this in cold blood? To make this world a better place we need compassion but we also need accountability for our actions,”
