Davis Cup Announces New Host Cities and Groups for 2021 Edition

Davis Cup is one tennis’ most prestigious tournaments. Although over the years it has lost its shine, it remains one of the premier team events in the sport. Now, the organizers have made some changes for 2021 and have added two new cities to its host list. Going into the Davis Cup 2021, Spain is the defending champion.
This year’s Davis Cup final was supposed to be played in 2020, but the coronavirus pandemic forced the ITF to postpone it.

This year, Madrid is again the host city alongside Innsbruck in Austria and Turin in Italy. All the three host cities will see their countries in action at home.
Groups for Davis Cup 2021
Madrid will be hosting Group A and B. Innsbruck will be hosting Group C and F, whereas Turin will host Group D and E. The competition will run for 11 days.

”We are very excited to bring the Davis Cup Finals to Innsbruck and Turin. Both cities submitted impressive bids that not only promise a world class experience for players and fans, but also include stringent measures to ensure the health and safety of all in attendance,” said Albert Costa, director of the Davis Cup Finals.
Since 2019, there have been changes in the format of the Davis Cup. The format now involves a one-week tournament having 18 teams. Four semifinalists from the previous edition, two wild cards, and 12 from the qualifying round. These 18 teams are then split into 6 six groups of three each. From the group stage, eight teams qualify for the knockouts.

Spain is the defending champions after beating Canada in the 2019 finals. Rafael Nadal was named the most valuable player after he won all of his eight matches in the tournament.
