“Does Feel Different From Any Other Slam”: Novak Djokovic Highlights Significance of Wimbledon Championships

World No. 1 Novak Djokovic is the man of the moment. Having won the first two Grand Slam events of the season, the Serb is in lightning form. As we inch closer towards the beginning of the Wimbledon Championships 2021, he has his eyes set on the most prestigious honor in this elegant sport. 

Recently, Novak Djokovic spoke about the tradition followed during the fortnight at the All England Club. As compared to the other Majors, at Wimbledon the defending champion opens proceedings on Monday at 1 o’clock in the afternoon. It is a tradition followed since the beginning and the Serb was impressed by that custom. 

Speaking on this topic, Djokovic stated, “There are many unique things about Wimbledon. One of them is that the defending champion is the first one to open the campaign on Center court on day one, on the untouched grass on Monday at 1 o’clock .. 1:30 actually this time. But you always know when you win a Wimbledon, you will be playing on center court at 1 pm on Monday.”

Novak Djokovic appreciates the customs at the Wimbledon Championships 

There are many notable aspects with regard to the Wimbledon Championships. It is the only Major that does not display any advertisement hoardings or any commercial acts. The focus is purely on the game and the attention is only on the players. The fact the Club has managed to continue this protocol for so long is commendable.

The 34-year-old player further added, “It does feel different from any other Slam. You know walking onto Center Court at Wimbledon, no advertisement, no banners, everything is about tennis. All focus is on the players and the court. I find that fascinating, in this commercial material world, Wimbledon managed to preserve its culture and tradition which is phenomenal.”

Coming to tennis and Novak, he is entering the Wimbledon Championships high on confidence. After his stints in Melbourne and Paris, he is looking to leave his mark in South West 19, London. It will be interesting to see how the Serb performs during his journey at the Championships.
