The Australian Open 2022 has been in the news for its strict Covid related guidelines. As the 2021 season draws to a close and next year’s ‘Happy Slam’ approaches, Australian star Nick Kyrgios talked about the event’s handling of the pandemic.

Kyrgios said that he wants people’s safety and mental health looked after, and commended that the Grand Slam should ensure that.

However, the Australian star player has spoken about something that takes a dig at the Serbian ace yet again. As we are well aware of fact that the Australian Open 2022 organizers have revealed that players would need to get vaccinated in order to compete.

Recently, Kyrgios spoke about this topic and stated, “I don’t think it’s morally right to accept players from overseas that are not vaccinated to come into our country and waltz around Melbourne free-will to play the Australian Open. I don’t think that’s right but for players who are vaccinated.”

The comments have been construed by some as a slight on World No. 1, Novak Djokovic, who has held an ambivalent stance about vaccination.

The 26-year-old added, “I think it’s an amazing opportunity to get the city of Melbourne and the people of Australia back together for an amazing sporting event with so much rich history where I’ve had most of my favorite sporting memories and I just want it to be done the right way. I want things to be prioritized. I want mental health and people’s safety to be looked after.”
