Draymond Green Admits He Almost Joined Celtics After Snubbing Warriors: “The Highest We Are Going Is 70”

Golden State Warriors dominated the NBA during mid-2010’s, as they won three NBA championships. The trio of Klay Thompson, Stephen Curry, and Draymond Green were part of the team that reached the NBA Finals for five straight seasons.
Draymond Green has been an important player for the Warriors since signing with them in 2012. He has settled in with the team over the years and has mesmerized everyone with his combinations with the Splash Brothers. However, there came a moment when he was close to leaving the Warriors. Green was set to become a free agent ahead of the 2020-21 season.
The Warriors were in a big dilemma as Durant and Klay Thompson’s contracts were also going to end around the same years. Green rejected the first offer from the Warriors and had talks with Boston Celtics.

Golden State Warriors star Draymond Green admits he was close to leaving Warriors
Warriors star Draymond Green recently appeared for an interview on JJ Redick’s YouTube channel. During the interview, Green was asked about his career without the Warriors. To this, Green revealed that he was talking to the Celtics for a potential move away from the Bay area.
“So I had heard the Pistons were going to offer me a sizeable contract. And I also talked to Danny Ainge and the Celtics. When free agency started, so we kind of had that small little window of the Warriors. Like ‘ah, the highest we were going is 70’,” Draymond Green said.

“And I’m like ‘well I’m gonna go talk to someone else’. Then it reported that Draymond and Warriors had cut talks off and right after that, I talked to Danny Ainge and the Warriors call right back like ‘all right, that’s it, good’.”
However, the Warriors offered a better deal to Green a year before his free agency. It was reported that the Warriors have extended Green’s contract for four years worth $100 million.

Green is currently out due to a back injury. The Warriors have got the Splash Brothers back but struggled a bit without Draymond. However, they’re back on track and are currently on a 5-game winning streak.
