COVID-19 forced gaming stores all over the world to close their doors. It eventually forced the buyers to look for an alternative route in the digital medium to shop for their favorite titles. Gamers world-over flocked to these mediums to make their purchase that saw games like Cyberpunk 2077 fetching the majority of the sales.
Although Cyberpunk released with much fanfare and anticipation, the game struggled to perform at its optimal best. It brings us to a looming question. How did the gamed fare as compared to its peers in 2020?

Stats provided by an analyst suggests bad news for Cyberpunk 2077
The game released to disappointment and disgruntled fans either abandoned the game or demanded a refund. This severely affected the title’s sales with Sony pulling the plug of its sales from its store. Not just that, steam also saw a steep drop in the player base with nearly 80% of the users exiting the franchise.

In a twitter post, gaming analyst Daniel Ahmed shared some interesting statistics about top 10 sales performance of games in 2020. He shared information about highest grossing games in terms of digital sales for NA region and Cyberpunk failed to break into top 10.
Here is a look at the best selling games on PlayStation 5's digital store in 2020 (first two months).
Top 5 for US / Europe is essentially the same but FIFA replaces NBA in Europe.

Worldwide rejection of CDPR’s unfinished product is not surprising
The data from the tweet accurately depicts the stance gamers have taken against the game. Although, developers have promised to make amends for their mistakes by rolling out routine updates to address various issues with the game. The updates will go online in the month of January and February.
CDPR’s co-founder Marcin Iwiński has also come out to offer a statement of his own on the matter. The CDPR chief apologized for the lackluster performance of the game and also took full responsibility for the outstanding problems.

He promised that the game is currently being worked on by the studio, and it will soon work out updates that will be aimed at fixing the game. He hopes to win the fans over once again, as the leadership has now decided to push the release of free DLCs in order to roll out hot fixes. The CDPR chief stated that the studio will make the game viable even for older-gen consoles, as it was originally promised to satisfy the fanbase.
