The Callisto protocol is an upcoming Survival horror game created by Striking Distance Studios and published by Krafton. The game is very inspired by Deadspace and Half-life. Veteran players can easily notice the resemblance between the games. The game is set for release on December 2, 2022.

The game is set in a prison called the “Black Iron Prison”. The explorable areas are visually compelling yet dreadful. As the game successfully sets the tone with dark lighting from dingy floor lights, clinking of chains, and muted moans in the unknown surrounding, creating an atmosphere that unnerves the player as they progress. 

The camera plays a vital role in setting this tone, as the camera always rests the game’s protagonist, Jacob, at an off-center angle. During the combat seasons, the camera gets pulled right in the back of Jacob, creating a claustrophobic feel and setting for surprising jump scares.  

The level of detail in this game is insane as the main character Jacob walk in the manner of a real person going through a very horrific ordeal, his face gets covered with sweat which he wipes away and even the fold and creases in his outfits are very true to life.   

Adrenaline pumping Combat

The main enemy in the game is Biophage. They crawl in-ground and skitter on the wall of the Black Iron Prison. These freaks give the vibes of the zombies from Last of Us. Biophages move in a very erratic manner. Their screech is unnerving, and they are always ready to jump on the player and give them a painful death. 

The combat is both melee based and long-ranged. The game has a large collection of guns and weapons, but the weapons won’t be enough to survive the monsters. As the game heavily motivates the players to dodge and use fight in a clever way than brute strength. 

A dark and moving story 

It is only obvious that a horror survival game like Callisto Protocol will have an appropriately dark story attached to it. The story of the game is very much like the Last of Us, where humans have turned into dreadful creatures, and the protagonist has to survive them all. 

But things aren’t that simple as the story has a lot of hidden depths, twists, and some serious plot points. The depth of the story alone is enough to give this game a shot!
