The widely promoted Portal mode is designed to enable players to have complete control of their game. It allowed players to tweak, restrict and reconfigure minute details such as health regeneration and vehicle choices.
But since the launch, critics and fans have been anything but impressed with DICE’s latest venture. The mode which was initially intended to take players on a nostalgic journey through the franchise’s previous titles is nowhere close to what the fans had expected. And many even believe the mode is as good as dead.

CD Projekt Boss Has High Hopes From Cyberpunk 2077 Despite Widespread Criticism
A subreddit, r/battlefield2042, dedicated to the game, recently had an uproar that aimed to shine some light on the seemingly infamous Portal mode. Numerous fans added to the discussion, highlighting the many problems they face when playing Portal mode.
The custom server attribute that allows players to hop on a server with their friends now seems annoying to the fans. Since the game does not grant you any XP for playing well on those servers. Further hindering your progress in unlocking Specialist assignments and weapons.
Widespread disappointment
Surprisingly, Portal’s feature to let players experience previous BF titles has also not performed well. According to the fans, the experience feels more like a demo and doesn’t give players access to all the maps, guns, or vehicles.
